Children in Mission @ Trintiy
Trinity’s children do special work in the area of mission. Mission projects are supported through ongoing individual Sunday School projects, church-wide projects, Children’s Lenten Mission offering to Heifer, Vacation Bible School mission offerings, and multiple Mission Kids projects.
Mission Kids has been an active group at Trinity UMC since the fall of 1994. The group is 1st through 5th graders who are interested in planning and being involved in mission projects. Mission Kids meets twice a month on Sundays during the school year. Generally one of our meetings per month is to plan activities, do mission study & games, make things that we can give away or use as part of a project and share a snack dinner. The other meeting is a field trip in the Richmond area, which includes visiting others, doing hands-on projects, or touring other mission oriented organizations and usually eating out.
The children work hard and have fun. They take their projects seriously and are enthusiastic about doing new and different things. The more they do, the more it seems they can do. The children's Mission group also has taken 3 to 4 day mission trips in the early summer since 1998. The involvement of the children will lay the ground work for mission work for the rest of their lives. The kids say:
"The purpose of mission kids is to help people because we love
Jesus and God..."
"... put smiles on peoples faces."
