Green Gardening Tips
Genesis 2: 8-9 - Now the Lord God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed. And the Lord God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground – trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food.
One of the purposes of Operation Earth is to encourage Trinity and its members to be stewards of the earth and protect and preserve the resources God has given us. In light of this, Operation Earth has a few suggestions for how to garden in an environmentally friendly way:
- Leave grass clippings on your lawn as natural fertilizer.
- Buy a squeeze nozzle for hoses. However, if watering plants, use a watering can to reduce water waste.
- Fill your yard with native plants. This will cut down significantly on watering requirements and, in the process, provide much needed food and shelter to local wildlife. Visit www.enature.com for a list of native species.
- Help counteract your carbon dioxide output by planting trees.
- Water at night to minimize evaporation.
- Mulch your gardens to reduce water evaporation around your plants (this also reduces weeds and builds healthy soil).
