Recycling Resources
Earth911
Earth911 provides locations for recycling a number of household items. All that is needed is your zip code and then the material you want to recycle. http://earth911.com
Central Virginia Waste Management Authority
The Central Virginia Waste Management Authority serves the metro Richmond area with a number of recycling programs, including curbside pickup, drop off locations, and special programs for old electronics. The site has a list of programs based on the materials to be recycled. www.cvwma.com/
Henrico County Landfills
The Henrico County Landfills offer recycling programs for yard trimmings, old appliances, motor oil, anti-freeze, and others. Some of these are in conjunction with CVWMA. In addition, free mulch is available. http://www.co.henrico.va.us/utility/solidwaste/
Other opportunities:
Plastic and Paper Bags
Some grocery stores, including Ukrops and Food Lion, have bins for recycling plastic and paper bags. Paper grocery bags can also be recycled with household paper for CVWMA pickup or drop-off points.
Useable Construction Materials
Richmond Habitat for Humanity Restore (1901 Roane St. Richmond, VA 23222) will take a number of used but useable items, including bathroom fixtures, old window sashes, and many more.
Vegetable Table Scraps
A small composter is a great way to get rid of leaves and small amounts of yard waste. It can also be used for recycling vegetable table scraps and other items like coffee grounds. Not recommended for meat table scraps!!! Composting keeps veggie wastes out of your kitchen disposal and the municipal sewer system.
