The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned.Isaiah 9:2
Each year my family eagerly anticipates worshipping together during the Christmas season at the Candlelight Service here at Trinity. What is it about that special night? We await the celebration of the coming of the Lord who was a gift to mankind that was too wonderful for words. For our sake, Christ came to Earth leaving all the glory of Heaven. He came to light our way that we may follow him.
Most of us have experienced despair and loss in our lifetime. The darkness can sometimes be overwhelming. But Christ tells us that this will not go on forever. For it is through him that we see the light.
As we pass the candlelight at the end of the service to one another, from mother to daughter, grandmother to grandchild, father to his small child, from person to person, we are united in love and gratitude as our darkened sanctuary turns to golden light. The light gives hope of a new beginning, peace on Earth, good will to man and the promise of everlasting life to come.
