“The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing.” I don”t know who said that, but now I’m saying it. The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing.
The church staff and I have been working on plans and proposals responding to the priorities that came out of our church consultation with the Unstuck Group, Inc. And let take this opportunity to say again how pleased and proud I am of the staff team that we have brought together. This month we will be meeting with church leaders to test, critique and refine these proposals regarding how and when we worship, disciple our children, and be together as the Body of Christ. Our goal is to be talking openly about specifics by next month with implementation early in 2020.
Separately, but by no means unrelated, Lay Leader Mike Smith attended a conference on the future of the UMC at the UM Church of the Resurrection in Kansas City. It was inspiring but all sobering regarding the challenges ahead of us. All of which brings me back to my original point. The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing. Our “main thing” is to be centered on Jesus Christ. It is to build up disciples of Jesus Christ. It is to invite others into relationship with Jesus Christ. Our church witness, all our strategies and all our ministries must be grounded in this eternal truth.
Church, fear not! Don’t be anxious. As long as we keep our vision and sight on Jesus Christ, if we keep the main thing the main thing the future of Trinity will be strong and assured!
