Spiritual Gifts: Discovering How God Has Equipped Us to Serve

A Letter from the Strategic Planning Committee:

As part of our Strategic Planning Process, Envisioning our Future: Building Trinity’s Roadmap, we identified a meaningful opportunity for growth: developing a better understanding of the gifts, talents, and spiritual strengths within our congregation — both individually and collectively.

In response, we are launching a church-wide Spiritual Gifts Assessment process using the Discipleship Ministries Spiritual Gifts Inventory of The United Methodist Church. This effort will help us:
  • Better understand how God has uniquely equipped each member
  •  Strengthen connections between individuals and ministry opportunities
  • Support our committees and service ministries with aligned leadership and participation
  • Provide our incoming pastor with valuable insight into the strengths of our congregation

We are asking each of you to complete the online Spiritual Gifts Inventory. The assessment:
  • Takes approximately 20–30 minutes
  • Includes 80 questions
  • Should be completed at a time when you can reflect thoughtfully; you are not able to leave the test and return to it at another time unless you begin again

Please plan to complete the assessment by June 30. You may access the survey online at the link below.

Your individual results will be available immediately to you upon your assessment completion. Please then fill out the form below to let us know your top 3 spiritual gifts. This information will be compiled and shared with clergy and lay leadership. Without filling out this form, we have no way of knowing your results.

Once a majority of our congregation has participated, we will share a summary of the collective findings.

The United Methodist Church recognizes 20 gifts of the Spirit, drawn from Romans 12, Ephesians 4, and 1 Corinthians 12–13. These gifts are not simply natural abilities, but ways the Holy Spirit equips believers to serve the Body of Christ. Each gift plays an important role in the life of the church. Together, they help us live out God’s call to ministry in our congregation and in our community.

These insights can guide future Ministry Matching — helping members connect with committees, ministry teams, and service opportunities that align with their spiritual gifts. Spiritual gifts can grow and deepen over time. We see this as the beginning of an ongoing process of discernment, encouragement, and faithful service. If you have any questions, please be in touch with our Strategic Planning Committee or our Lay Leadership Committee.

We thank you in advance for taking time for prayerful reflection and for considering how God may be calling you to serve as we prepare for a new pastoral season and continue doing the Lord’s work together.

With blessings and gratitude for your gifts -
Stephanie Ford
Strategic Planning Committee Chair
